The Role

As the leader of the Lumen enterprise UX design organization, you will be responsible for the UI/UX design of all enterprise customer-facing and select employee-facing applications. You will define the UX design strategy for the organization and partner closely with internal stakeholders to drive the successful creation of compelling, cohesive, and consistent end-to-end experiences across Lumen s broad enterprise product portfolio that establishes Lumen as a digital experience and technology leader. Under your leadership, you will also strengthen Lumen s customer-focused culture and build a best in class UX design organization by defining processes and methodology.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver a best-in-class enterprise user experience vision and strategy that exemplifies Lumen s promise of a technology leader. Partner with product leaders to align on strategic priorities and build a shared vision of the desired experience. Ensure that products and their digital interactions provide additional value to the Lumen portfolio. Use data and customer insights to confidently defend design solutions with senior leaders.
  • Manage and creatively lead multiple teams of visual designers, user experience designers & researchers and to define and deliver end to end experiences for our customers. Oversee the creation of personas, journey maps, user studies, wireframes, prototypes and more across all aspects of web, mobile, and omnichannel experience design. Coach and inspire your team towards success and cohesion.
  • Create & manage the UX design roadmap, assuring critical strategic work is not eclipsed by short term tactical priorities. Allocate resources to the highest impact work.
  • Define and enforce Lumen design methodologies, processes and tools across the organization. Evangelize the value of a user-centered design approach. Ensure that UX design is well integrated into Lumen s product development processes. Work cross-functionally to establish processes that enable successful customer solutions from early concept through final implementation.
  • Drive the evolution & adoption of the Lumen enterprise portal style guide, pattern library and design system to maintain consistency & efficiency in design and development across the business. Provide art direction to visual UI designers assuring a modern look and feel than complies with and strengthens the Lumen brand. Establish and maintain a do-it-yourself design toolkit and support model for teams creating their own user interfaces.
  • Manage the user research program and provide oversight of the user research technology platform. Assure that quality user research is conducted throughout the product design lifecycle. Manage user research platform budget and training for all of Lumen.
  • Partner with marketing design leadership to assure cohesive experience from the learn/buy experience on Lumen.com to get/use/pay on the customer portal(s) as well as a seamless omnichannel experience through the design of tools for customer-facing employees.
  • Plan and lead internal design thinking workshops & conferences (UX Summit) to generate new ideas and build a culture of creative collaboration.
  • Manage department budget, and perform staff management functions including but not limited to coaching, planning and performance management in a supportive, team oriented, collaborative manner.

What We Look For in a Candidate

Required
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in design, human factors, or related field.
  • 10
    year s professional work experience in UX design.
  • 3
    years leadership experience with successful track record of leading a UX design team
  • Ability to create and manage to a roadmap, balancing multiple strategic priorities, projects, and teams
  • Demonstrated ability to drive UX strategy and effectively work with cross-functional teams to achieve results
  • Excellent understanding of UI/UX design and research techniques, principles and best practices, with ability to teach and coach others.
  • Strong aptitude for visual design and ability to provide art direction
  • Strong communications skills including verbal, written and facilitation with the ability to synthesize complex information and then communicate effectively with frontline and C-suite individuals.
  • Passion for innovation and pushing/challenging the thinking of our team.

Preferred
Qualifications:

  • Master s Degree in design related field, or M.B.A.
  • Experience with design of technically complex interfaces for B2B & B2E use cases and/or design of eCommerce sites
  • Experience in Security, Networking Technology, Cloud, and Telecommunications services and technology
  • Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and HTML, JavaScript and CSS frameworks
  • Proficiency with graphic design & UX design software, and project management tools.
