The Role Network Planning at Lumen is a forward-looking, proactive business management domain that maintains control and manages intrinsic risk associated with multi-billion-dollar annual Network Expense (NetEx) and Capital Expense (CapEx) budgets. The principle goal of the Network Planning team is to maintain an efficient network that enables revenue while maximizing profit margin and cash flow. Network Planning utilizes an array of techniques to deliver on this goal. The Senior Director, Strategic Solutions role leads the Network Planning team's business intelligence team and scope with matrixed responsibility for an estate of database, application, and reporting solutions developed by the business intelligence team on behalf of the Network Planning organization. The team is the transformative arm of the Network Planning team with scope including development, delivery, and maintenance of business intelligence solutions to enable incremental value and drive operating efficiencies across the Network Planning team. Additionally, the team is responsible for managing the Network Planning customer experience throughout both internal and Enterprise IT development activities with dedicated technical subject matter experts and project management oversight personnel. The position requires exceptional interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, a high comfort level with dynamically shifting priorities, experience leading both highly skilled business and technical development professionals, hands-on and leadership experience in Agile development environments, and a curiosity and willingness to not only solve business problems but identify new business opportunities to drive profit margin and cash flow. This position requires regular communication, interaction, and support of multiple layers of Lumen leadership up to and including Senior Vice President. The selected candidate will o Lead the strategic transformation of the critical data, application, and process infrastructure to deliver on global financial objectives. o Drive innovation and adoption of business intelligence solutions to modernize and automate the operating environment of the global platforms used to deliver Lumen's products and services. o Lead teams with responsibility to develop automation, artificial intelligence, and machine learning solutions to deliver on transformational objectives and increase operational scale. o Support critical systems for capacity planning, network operational actions, and financial reporting. o Direct technical teams on development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise-wide tools, reporting applications, and data architecture. o Oversee and direct prioritization of technical development solutions creating more than $100M of incremental value annually. - Hire and retain talent in the correct roles - Set team and direct report performance management goals, monitor progress, and provide monthly feedback - Delegate and hold direct reports accountable - Empower direct reports to make decisions, act, and take appropriate risk o Collaborate with NP&AM customers to enhance the strategy and drive the execution of the strategy to transform and modernize the team's solution portfolio o Publish regular business updates providing transparency on operational activities, resource efficiency, and backlog funnel health o Develop, deploy, and oversee strategic relationships within Network Planning and Enterprise IT o Manage internal and external expectations of financial and operational activities o Drive Network Planning business objectives to fulfill development portfolio and program-level objectives o Deliver incremental system or technology solutions to elevate customer and employee experience while reducing operational costs o Provide expert-level guidance for strategic solutions to enable business value o Prepare and present briefing materials for consumption by senior leadership up to the Senior Vice President layer demonstrating operational control, development activities, and backlog funnel health o Partner with leaders across Operations, Finance, Sales, Product, Enterprise IT, and A&E domains to identify business constraints and align Network Planning's requirements to priorities o Collaborate and drive critical cross-functional reporting projects across partners in Operations, Finances, Sales, Product, Enterprise IT, and A&E o Manage operating expense and CapEx budgets versus actuals; drive operational efficiencies and cost improvements using modernized technologies, including but not limited to RPA, predictive analytics, and data science o Other duties as assigned What We Look For in a Candidate Qualifications & Skills Required o Master's Degree preferred with 10 years of leadership experience OR bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Accounting/Finance, or Management and 15 years of leadership experience in industry o Prior integration experience with proven ability to navigate an ambiguous environment with competing priorities o Demonstrated capacity to focus and deliver on objectives in a dynamic, multi-faceted, fast-paced environment o Demonstrated hands-on leadership experience in agile, iterative, or test-driven environments o Demonstrated experience with process and system development o Proven experience presenting options and features to senior leadership with influence in outcome o Exceptional ability to work effectively in groups with disparate priorities and operational targets o Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across organizational boundaries o Skill providing empathy for customer challenges while maintaining an objective, leadership-level posture in delivering customer support o Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills o Comprehensive command of telecommunication circuit mediums, enabling equipment infrastructure, and access cost structures o Ability to synthesize complex business issues into key actionable drivers for the purpose of promoting understanding and decision-making. Superior process acumen with ability to design effective and efficient process across functional organizations. o Data analysis skills with a working-level proficiency in writing code to correlate data from disparate data sources o Strong command of operational and financial accounting principles o Exceptional analytical skill and business acumen Preferred o Data modeling experience (dimensional and Big Data); data acquisition/ETL experience (PL/SQL, SQL, SSIS, SSRS). Visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik Sense). o Lean/Six Sigma belt certification o SAFe Training (Product Owner, Release Train Engineer, or Solution Train Engineer) o Prior experience in Agile Development in a Product Manager or Product Owner capacity o Experience leading technical development scope including database management, data architecture, cloud data and application development, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotic Process Automation o Ability to understand and translate business requests into business requirements for development purposes o Skill to communicate effectively across multiple independently led and scoped teams to accomplish aggregate business objectives o Prior working experience within Network Planning, Optimization Operations, and Contract Management o Prior people management leadership experience including recruitment, on-/off-boarding, goal setting, and performance management o Prior experience developing organizational strategy o Demonstrated experience in developing, operating, and optimizing operational processes to deliver on operational and/or financial objectives
Salary Range:
$250K -- $500K+
